Gerum Haile

Gerum Haile joined USAA in December 2017 and is serving as VP, Tech Fellow and chief architect in the CTO organization. His primary focus is on public cloud and capability centric application platforms.

Gerum received his M.Sc. in Software Engineering from the University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul, MN and has twenty plus years of experience in the architecture, design, and development of mission-critical, high-volume, cloud-based, distributed systems in insurance, banking, finance, payment, lending, health care & eCommerce sectors.

Prior to joining USAA, he worked for PayPal, eBay, GE Capital and Accenture.

Gerum has led different type of products, programs and projects including system modernization/legacy re-platforming, integration & consolidation, SOA/Micro-Services transformations, new B2B and B2C applications, platform services and infrastructure from concept to production.

Sanjeev Kumar

Head of Environments & DevOps, JPMorgan Chase and Co.

Effective leader with over 20 years’ experience delivering Environments, Cloud & DevOps across the financial services sectors for companies such as Lloyds Banking Group, Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan.

The key goal in his work is setting up robust and effective strategies that in turn provide improved efficiencies through resiliency and stability in environment availability. The overall objective is to deploy and test in a continuous and uninterrupted manner.

Raul Lapaz

Cloud security engineer Blue Team, Roche

Raul Lapaz has more than 20 years of IT experience and works as a cloud security engineer at the Swiss pharmaceutical company Roche.

His primary role is to design, implement, and deploy a secure cloud environment for health care digital products in AWS.

He writes articles for such publications as Admin Network and Security, and in the past, he also wrote articles for Windows NT Magazine.

He holds several IT certifications, like Splunk Architect, GIAC SANS, RedHat, CEH, Microsoft and others.

Owen John

Senior Enterprise Cybersecurity Architect, Kohler Co.

Owen John is a Senior Enterprise Architect at Kohler Co.

Founded in 1873 and headquartered in Kohler, Wisconsin. It is one of the oldest and largest privately held companies in the United States. Known for its bold look, Kohler is a global leader in Kitchen and bath products, is a global manufacturer of engines and power generation systems and operates award-winning hospitality destinations such as The Old Course Hotel & Spa in St Andrews, Scotland.

Owen started his career in Infrastructure and Operations in 1999 and has been with Kohler for the past 14 years with the latter 6 years spent in Cybersecurity and Enterprise Architecture. As the Enterprise Architect for this multi-billion dollar global company, Owen is able to share his experience of how Kohler chose to approach the challenges of remote working while protecting its assets and not overloading the VPN.

Colum Colbert

A Chartered Accountant, Colum formerly worked for 12 years as a manager in Baxter Healthcare’s Finance Shared Services Centre. Here, he managed areas including Finance Training, AP, Procurement Services and GL.

He joined Paddy Power Betfair (PPB) plc in late 2013 as Senior Manager for Disbursements, covering AP and Payroll.

Since 2017, Colum has led PPB’s Procurement Services team, responsible for driving Systems strategy.

Alex Lorke

Director of IT, Royal Mail

Alex is the IT Director for Platforms at Royal Mail with responsibility for Online Services, Postal Mobile Devices, Integration and DevOps. During his time at Royal Mail, he delivered Royal Mail’s digital hybrid cloud platform providing the UK’s premier online postal and logistics services. Alex created a Digital Lab launching innovative digital products like ‘Click & Drop’ and led the integration of the Storefeeder.com acquisition.

In 2016 he defined the GetAgile strategy and led the company-wide adoption of Agile working practices. Prior to Royal Mail, Alex worked at Thomson-Reuters, Ford, VirginCars, Vodafone and Logica among others.

James Hughes

Field Chief Technology Officer, Rubrik

James Hughes is our Field Chief Technology Officer focusing Globally Financial Sector and more broadly across EMEA. James joins us from Schroders where he was Global Head of Infrastructure Technology.  As technology executive, he was responsible for their complete infrastructure transformation, building the global team, changing the operating models, leading DevOps & Agile, cloud adoption, automation and building a code-driven infrastructure.

He changed the user experience of technology creating new ways to provide mobile-first technology adoption coupled with new channels to get insight and support.  Previously he was Head of Production Services at Premium Credit, VP of Infrastructure at PIMCO and Head of Central IT for Investec Bank Plc.  He is a Chartered Information Technology Professional with the British Computer Society.

Tom Welch

Application Security Engineer, Capital One

Tom leads Capital One UK’s DevSecOps initiative. Having spent several years developing automated functional tests across desktop, web, mobile and APIs, Tom now works in Application Security, actively developing and deploying AppSec tooling across corporate CICD pipelines for financial applications. Tom thinks functional and security testers have a lot to learn from each, and a better relationship between the two can lead to quick wins for both security and delivery across the organisation.

With a people centred and personal approach, he has worked in IT across different sectors such as defence, charities, healthcare and in scenarios of rapid growth and transformation. Entering the IT industry with experience from a design and catering background has evolved into people centred approaches to tackling technology objectives for organisations and companies.

The creation of a blended team dynamic at its core, supported by a hybrid cloud and As-A-Service platform strategy is enabling George’s teams to deliver modern technologies to support digital and technology change strategies at the organisations he has worked in.

An advocate for diverse teams and passionate about building the individual, he has focussed on teamwork, collaboration and empowering those individuals to learn and overcome the challenges a modern IT team faces. Nour Shaker

Public Cloud Product Development, Vodafone

After working in Dubai, Egypt, and Europe over the last 13 years in specialist IT leadership roles across different industries, Nour moved to the UK three and half years ago to achieve the next milestone in her career path and also to continue her gender transition journey.

Nour is currently working in Product Development, leading radical simplification and technical implementation of the enablement of Vodafone’s local markets globally to consume public cloud services in a secure, automated, and maintainable fashion, using cutting edge technologies within a SecDevOps framework, while maintaining a simple user experience.

Nour also plays an important role as Trans Advisor for the Vodafone UK LGBT+ Friends Network and has played a key role in the network getting the 2018 #1 UK LGBT+ Employee Network award from Stonewall. She also spoke on D&I in different forums (including Stonewall Workplace Conferences, and The House of Commons).

Lu Halstead

Principal Cloud Architect, Vodafone

Throughout her career Lu has held several senior and leadership IT architecture roles working on various high-profile projects for public and private sectors, driving cloud-native methodologies as well as enterprise transformation programs. She has also been a STEM Ambassador to encourage the next generation of technologists and inspire the uptake of STEM subjects in schools.

Lu currently works at Vodafone as a Principal Cloud Architect in the Technology, Strategy and Architecture function specialising in Public Cloud, leading cloud architectural frameworks and governance as well as guiding Vodafone globally on their cloud journey.

Lu has volunteered and participated at various tech community/hackathon events such as BarCamp London, Hacked London, Over the Air at Bletchley Park and Girl Geek Dinners.

Karen Brusch

Holistic Service Design Specialist, Nationwide Building Society

Karen Brusch is a Service Design Consultant at Nationwide Building Society and has authored & contributed to strategic frameworks for the service management & delivery community on Agile, DevOps & Cloud. Karen has worked for outsourcing Providers as well as Client organisations, and has expertise in bid management, client engagement, design & development of target operating models, transformation strategy and development of negotiation positions. She is actively involved in the development of good practice for the IT Service Management Forum UK and has co-authored a number of publications, including the recently published SIAM Professional Book of Knowledge.

Maria Matveeva

Cloud Transformation Programme Manager, Insight Investment

Maria led complex technology programmes across industries over the last 12 years and has delivered digital and big-data transformation programmes of up to £6.5M. Equipped with MSc, MSP, Agile, PRINCE 2, PROSCI Change Management & ITIL qualifications; and SAFe experience she has manages teams of up to 40 specialists working across international borders. In addition to tangible deliverables, like technology upgrades to Cloud, TOM and regulatory compliance, Maria ensures the organisations achieve greater outcomes by managing the people side of change in a structured and repeatable way.

Alex Hilton

Chief Executive Officer, Cloud Industry Forum

With 25 years of business experience in the IT industry, Alex has developed diverse knowledge and skills in several commercial roles. After completing ICL’s graduate training he joined Microsoft, spending 12 years in roles varying from managing public and private sector enterprise customers, channel leadership roles and finally running the UK compliance business. In 2010 Alex joined Rise (part of 1&1) as Managing Director building their Cloud services IaaS proposition. He developed Rise in to a profitable Cloud business and in 2011 they were awarded the accolade of Microsoft’s world-wide Hosting Partner of the Year.

In February 2013 Alex joined the Cloud Industry Forum as CEO responsible for strategy and day to day operations. He had been serving as non-Executive Director since 2008.

Oliver Briese

Oliver has gathered extensive experience in domestic and international rollouts of IAM processes and technical solutions within the European financial industries whilst being part of the German practice of EY. Since joining the DKB he is now responsible for the implementation of a new IAM-framework, the rollout of business roles and risks from the segregation of duties in the DKB-Group.

Markus Duda

Markus has been working in managing roles in financial institutions for more than 20 years; responsible for Operations, IT, and Internal Audit. Since 2017, he has been co-managing the IAM stream of an IT security project of Germany’s largest direct bank. The focus of his professional activity during the last years is to advise financial institutions on the implementation of IT security regulations especially regarding GRC (Governance, Risk and Compliance) and IAM (Identity and Access Management).

Ian Evans

IAM Subject Matter Specialist, Hargreaves Lansdown

Ian has lived a double life. His professional career spans information security, project management and marketing at financial sector stalwarts Lloyds, RBS, Co-op Bank, HSBC and Abbey. But he has also taught media, presentation and negotiation skills to clients from the bluest of blue chips to union leaders. Not bad for someone who started as an offshore DJ on pirate Radio Caroline. These days he employs both sides of his experience to evangelise about all things IAM at FTSE100 investment house Hargreaves Lansdown.

Ros Smith

Executive Product Manager – Identity & Access Management, BBC

Ros Smith is Executive Product Manager for Identity and Access Management – she has worked at the BBC for 20 years starting off in the Production and Editorial side of the business, having been a Radio Producer for Science Radio, Woman’s Hour and The Big Toe Radio Show; Deputy Editor of the award winning BBC News School Report; Project Manager at BBC Media Action and most recently Acting Head of BBC Weather.

She has been part of the BBC IAM team since 2018 and her background in the business highlights the point that IAM is 90% business change and 10% technology and to be successful it is essential to take a holistic approach to solving problems.

Vilma Blomberg

IAM Solution Design Owner, KONE

Vilma is an IT/Business professional working in Cybersecurity at the KONE Corporation as IAM Solution Design Owner. She has gained three University degrees as a “hybrid” manager from International master’s in management of IT -program (IMMIT).

At her work, she is specialized in delivering value from digital Identity and Access Management (IAM) using DevOps practices and automation. Vilma is responsible for gathering business and technical requirements, planning roadmaps and designing global solutions for IAM and Cybersecurity.

She has experience from managing a large legacy IDM replacement project. Now, her main focus is leading the agile IDM system development team. Acting as a Product Owner, she is ensuring that the solution is continuously developed, customized and configured to match the enterprise environment. She is more than eager to share her learnings and thoughts on practising DevOps & IAM.
