ICO fines MoJ for mishandling of data

2,935 prisoners from HMP Eriestoke in Wilshire had their personal information breached due to the loss of an encrypted hard drive. The ICO reduced its planned fine down to £180,000, due to improvements that were recognised since the incident in 2013, an MoJ spokesperson said: “We take data protection issues very seriously and have made significant and robust improvements to our data security measures. These hard drives have now been replaced with a secure centralised system.”
