Simone Steel is a Fellow of both the British Computer Society and the Forward Institute for responsible leadership, focusing on ethics and professionalism in data and technology. Simone has over 36 years international experience, having led data functions at Experian UK&I and worked as Chief Data and Analytics Officer for Nationwide Building Society in recent years. Before that, she held Change, Technology, and Data leadership positions at Morgan Stanley, Refinitiv/LSEG and The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS). In the last 15 years she has running Data and Technology strategy definition and execution, including the implementation of modern ways of working for data-driven and digital businesses. Simone is an active ambassador for women and BAME professionals in Data, Technology and Finance. Her academic background includes Computing, Economics and Data Science.

Shubhangi has over six years of experience working in data from companies like Tata Consultancy Services to start-ups. She has a background in computer science with an MSc in Business analytics from University of Bath. She works for ICS.AI as data analyst, focusing on artificial intelligence at forefront of technology. She has worked with data analytics, data strategy and Natural Language Processing (NLP) leveraging algorithms to extract insights, identify patterns, and understand human language in large datasets. This involves combining data analytics with linguistic knowledge to develop systems that can understand, interpret, and respond to human language in a meaningful way. She is leading the London Chapter for Women In Data which is a platform for data enthusiast of all backgrounds to connect, grow and lead together.

Karan is a seasoned Data Science/ Analytics professional having witnessed the infancy of the modern incarnation of this profession in a very traditional Consumer goods organisation and now pushing the boundaries of state of the art at a big tech firm. Having witnessed both extremes and everything in between over a career spanning 15 years, he both practices and evangelizes use of data science to make better decisions. 

Currently, he is the Director of Data Science at Meta leading a team of 35 DS building AI-powered Ads delivery products.

With more than 20 years of professional experience in the technology sector, Patty O’Callaghan has an educational background in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. She is a Tech Lead at Charles River Laboratories.

Acknowledged for her proficiency in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, she has been recognized as a Google Developer Expert (GDE) and as a Google Cloud Champion Innovator. Further contributing to the tech community, Patty is an Ambassador for Google’s Women Techmakers and takes on the role of organizer for the Google Developers Group based in Glasgow.

Patty is deeply passionate about Artificial Intelligence and is dedicated to sharing her knowledge and expertise in the field, underlining her commitment to fostering growth and innovation in AI and associated technologies. She regularly participates in conferences across Europe, delivering talks and leading technical workshops that cover a broad spectrum of technologies and topics pertinent to AI, with a notable focus on Web Machine Learning and Responsible AI.

Henry has over 15 years’ experience working with data across the academic and private-sector spaces. He is currently Data Director at TotallyMoney where I have been challenged with increasing data maturity across the organisation.

Since leaving the academic field of Astronomy in 2011 he has been an analyst at UBS, a data scientist at Nasdaq and the Head of Data at Tandem Bank.

Nikolay Burlutskiy
Director, AI, AstraZeneca

Nikolay’s interest is in applying AI methods to improve and accelerate drug development pipelines. He has background in computer science with a PhD in machine learning and deep learning.

Prior to AstraZeneca, Nikolay was leading algorithm development of Inify, a successful decision support tool to empower pathologists, at ContextVision in Stockholm. He also worked as R&D AI engineer at Samsung Electronics in South Korea developing vacuum cleaning robots. He has co-authored over 20 peer-reviewed publications including several US patents on AI applications.

Heather came to Merkle in 2017, and has previous experience within ebay, dunnhumby & Unilever. A big believer in the power of data to change organisations from the top down, Heather is also completing her doctorate at SDA Bocconi in Milan, looking at data as both an asset and a risk to businesses.

Jean-Paul Otte has over 30 years of experience in the high-tech industry with extensive experience in data management.

He has a thorough knowledge of data management and perfectly understands the type of issues an organisation may have to cope with when trying to extract value from its data.

Otte currently leads the data governance and quality strategy at Degroof Petercam, a financial services organisation headquartered in Belgium. By utilising both technology and human resources, Jean- Paul Otte is implementing business-driven data management processes across the organisation, focusing on continuous improvement and the enrichment of a data centric knowledge base.

Siz heads up Merkle’s UK Business Intelligence (BI) offering and has been involved in various aspects of BI from Data Warehousing and Engineering, Data Visualisation and now Conversational Analytics / NLP. His professional passion has remained the same, leveraging technology as an enabler for business decision makers to capitalise on data, ultimately having a positive impact on organisational objectives. Isolating the technological complexities involved in harnessing, interpreting and presenting information from the end users’ experience is one of his key objectives. While Siz does manage a business function he finds real joy in working at the coalface of inception projects and regularly helps clients start their BI journey with Merkle.

He has established himself as a thought leader and innovator with 30 years of experience in leading clients through major technological and operational transformational change. Most recently he has been responsible for developing innovative solutions and services designed to assist organisations through the challenges of increased governance and regulation within the Data Privacy space, and helping build a unique portfolio of managed services for Data Insights.

He has previously co-founded successful start-ups, including VirtualizeIT and Virtustream, and he also holds patents in Cloud technologies.

Artem Ivanov has over 19 years experience in teams’ management, software engineering and business development. He started as a software developer in the early 2000s in different companies and he continued as a CTO in a fintech startup, that turned out to be one of Russia’s largest retailers.

Since moving to London in 2015, he started as the Head of Business Intelligence and is now the VP of Data Platform at Bumble, the largest dating social network with more than 400m registered users. During last three years Artem has built a BI department of more than 40 people.

David Hoyle
Research Data Scientist Specialist, dunnhumby

Dr David Hoyle has nearly 30 years of experience in statistical and mathematical modelling.

After gaining a PhD in Theoretical Physics he embarked on an academic career that included research at the University of Cambridge and leading his own machine learning research groups at the University of Exeter and the University of Manchester.

For the last 10 years, he has worked in the private sector, including for Lloyds Banking Group, and AutoTrader UK – where he was joint Head of Data Science. He now works for the customer data science company dunnhumby, where he builds statistical and machine learning predictive models for the world’s largest retailers.

Prior to working in data science, Joe led the BI team in the UK coming from a background in analytics and mathematics.

Founder, IoT Privacy Forum; Expert in Public Policy of IoT & Identity Management; Privacy and Technology Policy Researcher

Dr Gilad Rosner is a privacy and information policy researcher and the founder of the non-profit Internet of Things Privacy Forum, a crossroads for industry, regulators, academics, government and privacy advocates to discuss the privacy challenges of the IoT. The Forum’s mission is to produce guidance, analysis and best practices to help industry and government to reduce privacy risk and innovate responsibly in the domain of connected devices.

Gilad’s broader work focuses on the IoT, identity management, US & EU privacy and data protection regimes, and online trust. His research has been used by the UK House of Commons Science and Technology Committee report on the Responsible Use of Data and he is a featured expert on O’Reilly and the BBC. Gilad is an internationally invited speaker and has given talks at industry conferences, universities, and government agencies, including the US National Institute of Standards and Technology. Gilad has a 20-year career in IT, having worked with identity management technology, digital media, automation and telecommunications.

Gilad is a member of the UK Cabinet Office Privacy and Consumer Advisory Group, which provides independent analysis and guidance on Government digital initiatives and is a member of the IEEE Global Initiative for Ethical Considerations in Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems. He is a Visiting Researcher at the Horizon Digital Economy Research Institute, an Affiliate Researcher at UC Berkeley’s Centre for Long-Term Cybersecurity and has consulted on trust issues for the UK government’s identity assurance programme, Verify.gov.
