Marc Steen, Senior Research Scientist, TNO

Marc Steen will present several methods to integrate ethics in innovation and development projects.

He suggests that computer and data scientists, software developers and engineers, designers, and others involved in the development and deployment of algorithms and AI systems, can improve their capabilities to “do ethics” in their projects.

His presentation is also a pitch for his new book: “Ethics for people who work in tech”.

The book’s aim is to empower people to take responsibility.

It introduces ethics in an accessible manner, with practical examples, outlines of different ethical traditions, and practice-oriented methods to ‘do ethics’: human-centred design, value-sensitive design, and responsible innovation.

• You can integrate ethics into your development projects
• By organizing ethical reflection, inquiry and deliberation
• You can use four different/complementary ethical views
• And draw from methods like Human-Centred Design

Data quality used to be a one-dimensional term:  Is your data right?  As the data landscape has become more complex and sophisticated, data quality has evolved to require a more holistic approach to encompass much more to ensure trust in data.  Integrated data quality, governance, and metadata management provides a more robust single view that data-driven companies require to have more complete confidence in critical business decisions.

Join Marco de Jong, as he shares use case trends that illustrate how innovation in data management continues to evolve.

Topics addressed:

  • Single View of Data: break down silos, and gain a powerful, comprehensive single view of your organisation’s data
  • Data on the Move: ensure consistent levels of data quality by monitoring data as it moves throughout the business
  • Operational Value: fix, and validate data to open the door to new possibilities
