Nigel Cameron

President and CEO, Centre for Policy on Emerging Technologies

A native of the UK, Nigel Cameron has spent much of his professional life in the United States.

Former President and CEO of the Center for Policy on Emerging Technologies in Washington, DC, he was also recently Fulbright Visiting Research Chair in Science and Society at the University of Ottawa, and earlier a Research Professor and Associate Dean at the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Professor Cameron has been a featured speaker at a range of international events, including the Aspen Ideas Festival and Global Health Forum, the Science Prepcon for Rio+20, the Champalimaud Foundation conference on the world in 100 years, the International Content Summit, TEDx Port Alegre, the World Healthcare and Innovation Technology Summit, the STARS emerging leaders conference, and most recently a UN Human Rights Council expert consultation on AI and Human Rights.

He convened the first Washington, DC conference on the implications of the Internet of Things, and has chaired a series of subsequent IoT events in DC and Brussels, as well as the Dubai GITEX and Future Tech conferences, and the European Identity and Cloud conference.

He has testified to the European Commission’s Group on Ethics, as well as committees of both US Houses of Congress, on issues including nanotechnology and the security implications of new technologies. He has also been a member of US Government delegations to the UN General Assembly and UNESCO, and was appointed to four terms as a commissioner of the US National Commission for UNESCO.

He has written and edited a number of books on the impact of emerging technologies, including Nanoscale: Issues and Perspectives (Wiley) and Will Robots Take Your Job? A Plea for Consensus (Polity/Wiley) (shortly to appear in Mandarin). He also recently served as first tech editor of the UK journalistic start-up UnHerd.

He is currently a non-executive director of a start-up working on air-generated water, has been an adviser to various businesses including Constellation Research and Giesecke & Devrient, and three times executive-in-residence at Wolfsberg, the UBS executive development centre. He is also a committee member of HumanIN, a start-up advisory on the human dimensions of AI.

He is a graduate of Cambridge and Edinburgh universities, and the Edinburgh Business School.

Bertram Pamminger

Ever since starting his career at Daimler, Bertram has been working with bill-of-material data; but only after Daimler focused more on the value that can be extracted from data under a new CIO, Bertram looked into new ways of digging deeper. For 4 years, Bertram has been leading a data-driven team to find ways to unlock the potential of Data for Daimler Trucks engineering and has been an ambassador of digital transformation and focus on data.

In recent projects, Bertram has been focused on creating business value by providing “insights for everyone” and successfully rolling-out easy access tools. These tools don’t require data science, data engineering or programming skills, bringing the right questions it the only requirement.

Bertram supports the vehicle and powertrain organization of Daimler Trucks in their respective strategic projects to reduce variants and complexity without impacting the ability to deliver the exact right product to every customer.

Felix Rosbach

Product Manager for Enterprise Data Security, comforte

Felix has been passionate about cyber-security and hacking since he was in grade school. He began his career as an IT professional over ten years ago and has gained a great deal of experience and market insight into the data security industry.

He started off in systems integration where he was responsible for infrastructure management, system hardening, intrusion detection, anti-virus solutions, and encryption. Today, he is Product Manager for Enterprise Data Security at comforte.

Drawing from his vast experience and expertise in cybersecurity & cryptography, he is responsible for the success of comforte AG’s strategy for Enterprise Data Security and connecting with companies to secure their data and their growth.

Sébastien Oldenbroek

Product Owner Data, Nationale-Nederlanden

Sébastien Oldenbroek is Product Owner Data at the Dutch insurance company Nationale Nederlanden – Non Life within the NN-Group. He has been leading several teams that work on the Non-Life Data Warehouse since 2019. Dating back to 2015, he held various roles, from IT Management Trainee to Data Quality Officer.

How did a Chemistry graduate end up in IT? He likes the complexity of IT, especially data, thinking in different layers and abstract models and combining it with business sense.

Sander Hermsen

Sander is an experienced architect with 20 years of experience within the financial sector (Insurance and Banking).

Dani Marouane

Enterprise Architect, IoT & Big Data Domain architect, Damen Group

Dani Marouane works as a digital segment architect at the IT&IM department of Damen Shipyards Group, the Netherlands.

He graduated in 2011 from the Moroccan Aviation international Academy as embedded systems engineer and 2014, from EMLyon Business School as a digitalization engineer. His main specialties are big data, real-time processing, analytics and IoT.

He joined Damen Shipyards in 2015 working on multiple innovation projects before designing and realizing the Damen Digital platform, implementing a DevOps structure with automation and continuous delivery implementations among other Big Data projects.

Frank Knot

Head of Customer Success EMEA, HVR

With over 15 years’ data integration and management experience, Frank Knot has extensive knowledge in designing and architecting cloud data integration projects. Real-time analytics, data lakes, and data warehousing are common enterprise projects he is involved with across EMEA.
Frank is located in HVR’s Amsterdam office.

Isabel Bevort

Data scientist, Dutch Railways

Isabel Bevort graduated from the University of Amsterdam with a MSc Mathematics degree before joining NS as an IT trainee. During this time, she has worked in Data & Analytics and the research department of NS Stations (Dutch Railways).

After her traineeship she went on working at the latter as a data scientist/researcher. The projects she has worked on include descriptive and predictive analyses, such as predicting crowds at the Schiphol Airport train station and analysing pedestrian flows inside Utrecht Central station to optimize cleaning schedules.

With a passion for clear communication of the information that data provides, she has transformed the knowledge she obtained from a training by Stephen Few into several workshops and presentations to introduce the concepts to a wider NS-audience.

Polina is a Sr. Data Scientist in the Advanced Analytics team of TNT Digital International, with experience in data engineering, analytics and data science in corporate international environments, previously at Shell International and Exact.

As OKR Program Lead at TNT Digital, she is also currently leading the Digital International organisation in the adoption of the OKR methodology with the ultimate goal to have measurable and visible business impact throughout the organisation.

Sarah Westphal

After finishing her PhD at the Utrecht University in 2015, Sarah started working for a.s.r. as a marketing intelligence analyst. Since then, she has held different functions within a.s.r. all related to data innovation and machine learning.

In 2018, Sarah set up the a.s.r. analytics lab, the company’s centre of excellence for machine learning and artificial intelligence. She currently works together with her fast-growing team on accelerating the use of algorithms for a.s.r’s different operations.

Sanne Menning

Sanne works as a lead data scientist  for forecasting at Albert Heijn. Together with a team of data scientists and engineers, she works on providing accurate and relevant forecasts throughout the organization.

Prior to Albert Heijn, Sanne worked as a data science consultant at Macaw. She worked with clients in various industries, inventing, designing and building real-world applications of advanced analytics and machine learning. Before that, she worked as a data analyst/scientist for Eneco group, focusing on data management and predictive maintenance.

Sanne holds a PhD in Neurosciences from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She has always been passionate about data, statistics and math. She is driven to create solutions that are understood and trusted and add value to the organization.

Kat James

Head of Data Science, Royal Mail

Katherine James is the Head of Data Science at Royal Mail, where she leads a team of 20 data scientists working on a wide variety of projects including forecasting, vehicle route optimization, workload planning and AI for operational managers.

Her background is in statistical genetics and she completed a PhD in the genetics of HIV-2 infection at Oxford in 2014. Following a short Post-Doc in Kumamoto in Southern Japan, she returned to the UK and entered industry as a data scientist in the Know Me team at British Airways. She was responsible for building a recommender system for email personalization which went through successful A/B testing and formed the basis for destination personalization to over 4 million customers.

She has been at Royal Mail since 2016 and alongside her day job is a passionate advocate for women in Tech, mentoring several early career data scientists and regularly blogging and speaking about how to increase diversity in tech teams at internal and external events.

Arno Van Sloun

Arno van Sloun is an enthusiastic and result driven thought leader in the field of data science. He specializes in advising organizations on becoming data-driven and enables the change needed to transform.

Redouane Boumghar

Former mentor at NASA Frontier Development Lab; Member, Libre Space Foundation; former Data Scientist at European Space Agency

Dr. Red Boumghar worked as a data scientist at the European Space Operations Center where he organised a machine learning challenge with the first release of open data from the Mars Express spacecraft. As a mentor for the AI accelerator of the NASA Frontier Development Lab 2018, Red nurtured creative and shared thinking. Kasper Knol

Yuliya Sapega

Henk Munter

As Chief Data Officer he provides Enterprise Data Ownership, leads the BI/Data Science department as well as being Primary Stakeholder for several key business processes, especially the ones that are data-driven.

Romeo Kadir

Vice President, European Association of Data Protection Professionals; President of the Board, European Institute for Privacy, Audit, Compliance & Certification

Romeo Kadir is a legal data protection scholar and holder of an Executive MBA from the Rotterdam School of Management. Studying the premises of ‘personal life’ (back in 1988) as a European fundamental right and its compliance challenges were at the basis of becoming the first appointed Data Protection Officer in the Netherlands with a semi-governmental organization (Authority for Financial Markets). As pioneer and founder of the Dutch Privacy Academy (2009), he trained many data privacy professionals combined with PhD Research in the field of the professionalization of the Data Protection Officer.

Romeo is involved with several EU certification initiatives and member of the International Board of Experts with EuroPrivacy (a pan-European certification scheme) which has been sent for final approval to the European Data Protection Board.

As Chairman of the EADPP Certification Committee and EADPP Academic Board, Romeo is responsible for the completion of certification schemes for European data protection professionals in line with the GDPR, upholding a truly cross-European approach.

Romeo has 15+ years of experience at senior level data protection compliance with data privacy laws and regulations, data breach management, data privacy contract law, privacy implementation programs, digital data privacy compliance performance reporting & big data management, data privacy project management, data cybersecurity & business intelligence (AI).

Aisling Connolly

Aisling is an Irish mathematician and cryptographer based in Paris. Aisling has written and co-authored a number of research papers in the areas of symmetric cryptography, public key cryptography, digital signatures, post-quantum cryptography, and privacy. Ultimately, her goal is to continue to tie the theoretical questions of life to the practical needs of society.

Marc Steen

Marc ( works as a senior research scientist at TNO ( He earned MSc, PDEng and PhD degrees in Industrial Design Engineering at the Delft University of Technology. He is an expert in Human-Centred Design and Responsible Innovation.

Marc supports organizations and companies in using technologies to create a just society in which people can flourish. He is interested in ethical and societal issues in relation to big data, algorithms and artificial intelligence.

Spilios Tzouras

Senior Data Scientist at Ferratum

Spilios is a senior data scientist at Ferratum Group, where he is responsible for the development, deployment and maintenance of predictive models. He has previously worked as a structurer in Greece and as equity derivatives strategist in the UK. Julio Peironcely

Julio is on a mission to make businesses more data driven and data scientists more business driven.

Julio Peironcely works as Head of Data Science team at Schiphol Airport, where his goal is to productionize data science and help build the Schiphol Data Hub, the cloud production environment that enables the digital transformation of Schiphol.

Prior to Schiphol, he worked as Senior Data Scientist for companies like VodafoneZiggo, Microsoft and Deloitte. He has experience developing data science solutions in insurance, telecommunications, energy, the public sector and law enforcement.

Julio holds a BSc in Computer Science from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, a MSc in Bioinformatics and a PhD on Computational Life Sciences from Leiden University.

Caroline Carruthers

Group Director for Data Management, Lowell Group and Co-author of ‘The Chief Data Officer's Playbook’

Caroline is a ridiculous optimist whose natural curiosity never stops. She is also the first Group Director for Data Management for the Lowell Group and previously was Network Rail’s first Chief Data Officer but has been a data cheerleader for more years than she can remember. Caroline is a strong advocate of ‘getting the basics right’ and the KISS principle, despite being a complete geek when it comes to any form of technology. As a trustee for CILIP (Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals) she champions the growing professionalism of the data and information-related disciplines so that we can all head towards data nirvana a bit quicker.

Caroline draws on experience from a varied background covering CIO/CTO roles through to running large-scale complex change programmes. It was the recognition that ‘everything we do is fuelled by data and information’ that drove her down the CDO route and she now describes herself as a Data Cheerleader.

Peter Jackson

Chief Data Officer, Southern Water and Co-author of ‘The Chief Data Officer's Playbook’

Peter is Chief Data Officer at Southern Water and is tasked with developing and delivering a data strategy for the organisation.  Southern Water supplies 524 million litres of drinking water from 89 water treatment works along 13,793 kilometres of water mains to customers’ taps.  It also treats and recycles 718 million litres of wastewater at 365 treatment works, after it is pumped through a network of 2,375 pumping stations and 39,600 kilometres of sewers each day.

Previously Peter was Head of Data at The Pensions Regulator (TPR), which regulates the pensions and automatic enrolment in the UK. Before joining TPR Peter spent 17 years providing data strategy consultancy across the not for profit sector, financial services and FMCG, working with large multi-national organisations and blue chip brands. Peter is a specialist in Data Strategy, Data Technologies, Master Data Management Strategies, Data Governance Frameworks, GDPRand Data Science Strategies. Peter is the co-author of ‘The Chief Data Officer’s Playbook’ published by Facet November 2017.

Alejandra Leon

Director, Lead Architect Digital, Architecture & Emerging Technologies, Philips IT

Alejandra works as Director, Lead digital architect in the Architecture & Emerging Technologies department, Philips IT. Alejandra develops digital architectures for CRM, DMP, NLP and several other digital marketing projects; her focus is to develop digital architectures that can help Philips respond effectively to customer demands.

Originally, from Peru, she is also an Australian citizen; she gained a bachelor degree in Systems and Software engineering at the Australian National University, Canberra. A few years later, she completed her Masters in Business, specializing in Marketing, at the University of Adelaide.

She has lived in The Hague for several years, working at Royal Dutch Shell, Inter IKEA and Philips. In 2014, she led a team to win first place at Startup Weekend Eindhoven with VRroom, an app that utilizes Google Cardboard to create 3D virtual reality showrooms for Do-It-Yourself stores.

Aart Labee

Aart Labee is Global Director BI & Analytics at FrieslandCampina, where he has been in a leadership role since 2016. He is tasked with the implementation of BI and analytics capabilities across multiple disciplines throughout the global FrieslandCampina organization (a leading Dairy multinational with revenue of $13 billion, active in 40 countries with 22,000 employees and 30+ brands selling to consumers and B2B). His responsibilities range from defining business needs, implementing solid data architecture, data warehousing, developing and delivery of Business Intelligence & Analytics capabilities – on both operational, tactical and strategic levels.

Maarten van der Veen

Strategic Lead – 510 Global, Netherlands Red Cross

Maarten van der Veen is the founder of 510, the data initiative of the Netherlands Red Cross. 510 aims to make humanitarian aid faster and more cost effective by using data. Maarten has a degree in Artificial Intelligence, and has experience in a number of humanitarian disasters, such as Typhoon Haiyan (2013, Philippines), Malawi Floods (2015) and Hurricane Irma (2017, St. Maarten).

Michiel van Dongen

Senior Advisor Data Innovation and IoT, Koninklijk Nederlands Meteorologisch Instituut

Michiel is a senior advisor at the KNMI Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute. His background is in data analytics, applied earth science, and technical and program management. He has broad experience in applied science in entrepreneurial, business and public sector environments in different countries. He spent a total of 11 years overseas and enjoys meeting and working with people from all backgrounds and walks of life.

Prior to working at KNMI, he spent half a year at a leading business school gathering a global network of business professionals and upgrading his skill set. Since then, he has pivoted his career towards helping society understand the challenges and opportunities brought by our physical environment, climate change and the renewable energy transition. His focus is on using data science, citizen science, Internet of Things and organisational behaviour as the principal drivers for achieving impact.

Cosmando Byarugaba

Program Lead, Big Data Program, Air France-KLM

Cosmando Byarugaba is Big Data Program Lead at Air France KLM, where he has been leading the joint program since 2014. He has been tasked with the definition customer data strategy and implementation of the program including operationalization throughout the customer journey. He is based at both Amsterdam and Paris Head Offices and previously worked as Regional Commercial Director for Air France KLM in West Africa region.

Cosmando holds a Master’s Degree in Economics with many years of business and leadership experience in Pricing, Revenue Management, Business Development, Marketing, Sales and Digital line of businesses. He is also responsible for leading an organizational transformation program of Air France KLM cross functional data teams in multiple locations.

Naser Ali

Head of Product Marketing, Hitachi Vantara

Naser Ali is the Head of Solution Marketing for what was Pentaho and now part of Hitachi Vantara. Naser joined Pentaho after twenty years working for big data, cloud, middleware, data centre management, storage and power management companies where he handled marketing and strategic planning. Prior to that, Naser was a research engineer for GE Lighting. Naser has an honours degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of York, a master’s degree in Optoelectronics from the University of Strathclyde, a professional postgraduate diploma from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, and is a member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers. He is based in London, where he lives with his wife and two children.

Tamas Erkelens

Program Manager Data Innovation, City of Amsterdam

Tamas Erkelens is a Program Manager of Data Innovation at the Municipality of Amsterdam. He aims to add public value using data analysis. Previously, Tamas graduated with honors as Research Master of Quantitative Analysis and has worked for ING as a Product Owner. With a background in academia and the private sector, he aims to open Amsterdam to partners solving urban challenges. In his spare time he is a co-founder of Data Mission, a foundation connecting big data analysts to Mission driven organizations.

Satya Singh

Senior Product Manager, Expedia

Satya Singh is a Senior Product Manager at Expedia. Satya has over ten years of experience within business and IT solving data related problems. He has worked in various fields – starting from e-commerce, product and digital to the realms of data and analytics. Satya specializes in developing data and product strategy roadmaps to make sure big data means big insights. He is passionate about solving the big data problem in the world of the Internet of Things (IoT). He currently focuses on understanding how the travel industry is transforming with data. Satya is passionate about bridging the gap between big data technologies and business – he is currently working with various acquisition marketing channels in the travel industry to re-define how data products can help the business to make effective decisions.

Pascha Iljin

Manager FP&A Predictive Analytics and Big Data, AkzoNobel

Pascha is Manager Predictive Analytics within Group Financial Planning and Analysis at AkzoNobel. With a team of Data Scientists and in close collaboration with Business and Functions, they define, develop, and deliver improvements to the process of planning, budgeting, and forecasting.

Prior to joining AkzoNobel, Pascha worked for 10 years within ORTEC Consulting, supporting multinational companies in the area of Analytics. Before that, he worked within the R&D department of Océ (a Canon company).

Pascha holds a Master’s degree in Mathematics from Belarusian State University and has a Master’s of Technological Design degree from the Eindhoven University of Technology.
