In 2006 he became Senior VP for Worldwide Sales at Convera.  Graham has 20 years search engine industry experience, an excellent reputation among his clients, and a strategic knowledge of the enterprise search space.

Dr Mo Saraee

Reader in Data Mining & Bioinformatics, and Programme Leader for MSc Data Science, University of Salford-Manchester

Dr Mo Saraee is a Reader in Data Mining and Bioinformatics and the Programme Leader for MSc Data Science at the School of Computing, Science and Engineering, University of Salford. Mo has more than 35 years combined academic and industrial experiences in big data management and advanced analytics. He has been particularly successful in attracting £50k from HEFCE for the development of a new MSc in Data Science which allow students to gain industry recognised certification in Big Data Analytics from SAS and live dissertation projects with companies such as Mizuho International plc, Universal Music Group, Cross Channel Marketing, and Camden Council. Dr Saraee achieved similar success in research where his areas of expertise include the application of data mining and data science techniques in the medical and Bio medical fields. Dr Saraee has published over 115 scientific papers in reputable journals. His research outputs were cited over 700 times emphasising on the academic impact of his research.  He has been the principal or co-investigator of a number of research projects generating in excess of £280K in research income from Research Councils, UK Government agency and industry.

Aaron Regis

Solutions Engineer, DataStax

Aaron previously worked as a Solutions Engineer in the Cyber Threat Analytics space and as a Technical Consultant implementing Financial Crime Detection software in the financial services sector. He is passionate about technology, particularly database technology. After many years working extensively with relational DB technology he is excited to be working for the company behind Cassandra noSQL DB.

David Walker

Enterprise Data Platform Programme Director, Worldpay

David has over 20 years’ technical leadership expertise and has led the development and management of complex BI solutions, supporting technical architectures for a wide range of organisations spanning SME start-ups to large enterprises.
In his role at Worldpay, David specialises in developing and delivering the Enterprise Data Platform, a multi-tenant highly secure Hadoop platform for decision engines, analytics and reporting using his experience and knowledge in technical architecture, data modelling, ETL design, data quality, and metadata management.

Gillian Docherty

Chief Executive Officer, The Data Lab

Gillian Docherty is chief executive of The Data Lab, one of the eight innovation centres set up by the Scottish Government to enhance innovation and entrepreneurship across Scotland’s key economic sectors.
Already, under Gillian’s tenure The Data Lab supports 55 data projects predicted to contribute £80m to the Scottish economy and create 260 jobs.
Integral to delivering this is facilitating partnerships between industry and academia, supporting budding data science businesses and projects as well as funding first class, ground-breaking education programmes.
In March this year Gillian spearheaded Scotland’s first ever DataFest which saw world-renowned international experts in data science descend on Edinburgh to share cutting edge practices to over 2,000 attendees.
As well as bridging critical partnerships with international leaders in data science, Gillian also launched The Data Lab’s MSc programme. Aimed at equipping students with data science business-ready skills, the success of the first MSc meant Data Lab funded places grew by 50 for this year’s intake – more than doubling from 90 to 130.
Formerly of IBM, she’s recently been named CEO of the year at the Digital Technology Awards and is also one of the UK’s top ten most influential people in data according to DataIQ.
Gillian is on the Board of Tech Partnership Scotland and is also a Board member of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce.

Nick Barth

Senior Sales Engineer, MicroStrategy

Nick Barth has been involved with planning and BI software longer than he likes to admit.  Nick first joined MicroStrategy ten years ago where he built up a reputation for working with some of the larger enterprise customers, particularly in retail.  Nick is a boomerang, having left MicroStrategy to work at a start-up in the BI space for a couple of years but was very excited to return to the fold last year.  He is now aiming to broaden his focus, supporting significant engagement in financial services as well.

Ian Williams

Data Scientist, N Brown Group

Ian is part of N Brown Group’s rapidly growing data science team and is currently focused on customer related projects as well as diving into the world of open source analytics.
He has 15+ years of experience within data science and analytics in the retail industry. In his career to date he has worked across most areas of retail analytics including targeted marketing, digital analytics, econometrics, personalisation and experimentation.

Liam Grady

Head of Transformation - Water Supply, Thames Water

Liam Grady is a Programme Consultant with 15 years’ experience that has been working with Thames Water, Severn Trent Water and other organisations in and out of utilities over the last several years on data and transformation. Liam is responsible for making landing and delivering big data and analytics projects as well as wider transformation and change programmes. Liam is passionate about gadgets, technology, software and how disruption is the lever towards progress.

Mark Samson is a Principal Systems Engineer at Cloudera, helping customers solve their data problems with a modern platform for machine learning and advanced analytics. Mark has 18 years’ experience working with data and information management software in technical sales, service delivery, and support roles across a full spectrum of sectors including banking, retail and telecommunications.

Mark Renton

Head of IT Architecture, Domestic & General

Mark has spent the last 17 years as an architect, most of this time in Lloyds bank where amongst other things he defined the architecture and approach for the integration of HBOS into the Wholesale Bank. Currently Mark is the Director of architecture at Domestic and General and is working on strategic architectures as well as guiding the architecture on key transformation programmes including the implementation of MDM and a new data warehouse.

Wael Elrifai

Senior Director of Enterprise Solutions, EMEA & APAC, Hitachi Vantara

Wael Elrifai is an avid technologist and management strategist, bridging the divide between IT and business as Pentaho’s EMEA Director of Enterprise Solutions.  He’s been working in high performance computing, machine learning, the broader artificial intelligence field and the “Big Data” ecosystem for the past decade.  Wael has served corporate and government clients cross North America, Europe, the Middle East, and East Asia across a number of industry verticals and has presented at conferences worldwide.
With graduate degrees in both electrical engineering and economics he’s a member of the Association for Computing Machinery, the Special Interest Group for Artificial Intelligence, the Royal Economic Society, and Chatham House.
Wael also serves on the boards of two charitable organisations and enjoys tinkering with “bleeding edge” technology, private aviation, and adventure travel.

Stephen Foot

Stephen has worked within the railway industry for 30 years in a variety of operational roles, maintaining and renewing railway infrastructure, and more recently in strategic engineering functions.  Currently he is developing the use of data derived from London Underground’s assets, to provide actionable information, embedding it within the operational business to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of asset maintenance.
