Department of Health shortlists three for ESR deal

The Electronic Staff Record (ESR) contract has now been whittled down to three final bidders, it first went on an outsourced basis in 2001 to McKesson, a contract that will continue until August 2015. The original consortium within this deal included IBM Business Consulting Services and Oracle.

Live since 2008, the system has evolved over time to reflect the needs of its user base, a user base that stands at around 1.4m. The contract worth between £200m-£400m is that DH, as single funder, will take ownership of the system.
